Based on the detection of two enzyme activities:
• β-D-glucuronidase (β-GLUC)
• β-D-galactosidase (β-GAL)
The hydrolysis of chromogenic substrates included in the
product results in purple Escherichia coli colonies (β-GLUC+/β-GAL+)
and blue coliform colonies (β-GLUC-/β-GAL+). The supplement
added to the RAPID'E.coli 2 medium inhibits interfering
Gram-negative flora, which can be found in large numbers
in water. |
